Power Panther Pals

Power Panther Pals is expanding for the 2008-2009 academic year! Kansas Team Nutrition is excited to offer a new Power Panther Pals program designed for elementary students in grades K-2 called Power Panther Pals Primary Level. This program will debut in spring 2009. Just like with the current Power Panther Pals program, applications will be made available early in the fall of 2008, participating classrooms will be named in November, and kits will be sent in late December.

Power Panther Pals Primary Level for grades K-2 is a new program and will be offered IN ADDITION to the current Power Panther Pals program for grades 3-5 (renamed Power Panther Pals Intermediate Level). BOTH programs will be available in the spring of 2009. Watch for applications this fall!

Questions about either Power Panther Pals program can be sent to:

Family Fun, Food & Fitness Event Resources

Kansas Team Nutrition is putting the finishing touches on a Family Fun, Food & Fitness Event Guide designed for schools. This guide provides instructions for planning and promoting a health-centered, family-friendly, school-sponsored event and includes specific instructions detailing both nutrition and fitness activities.

Kansas Team Nutrition is looking for schools interested in using this guide to plan one or more Family Fun, food and Fitness events during the 2008-2009 school year to provide feedback on the guide's format and usefulness.

Ten $500 mini-grants will be awarded during fall 2008, and ten more will be available in spring 2009 to schools willing to use and evaluate this new resource. All Kansas schools participating in one or more school meals programs will have the opportunity to apply for a mini-grant to help financially support a Family Fun, Food & Fitness event.

To apply for fall 2008 funding, complete and return this application by September 15, 2008. At least one Family Fun, Food & Fitness event must be completed by December 31, 2008.

To apply for spring 2009 funding, complete and return this application by January 12, 2009. At least one Family Fun, Food & Fitness event must be completed by May 15, 2009.
